Not sure if I am doing this in the right place, but here goes ...
a wise editor once told me not to you use "may," the correct form being "might."
The only place I use "may" is in visitations in obits ...
Thoughts?
Use may when you mean allowed to. Remember the old "Mother may I?" game? Can you substitute "allowed to" into the sentence? Then use may.
